One design, two techniques

We had a cyberstamp last week and three challenges were set. The second one, which I’m featuring here was to use Versamark in the creation of the card. I started out by using the popping pastel technique for the card. When it was done I was curious to see how the same card would look using the emboss resist technique.

This is the one using the popping pastel technique…..

….and this is the emboss resist card.

I also used mostly Bold Bright colours, which I hardly ever use. But these past few days have been so cold and dreary that I thought this colour pallet was appropriate to lift my sagging mood. If anyone has a preference for one card over another, I’d love to hear your comments/feedback. I also challenge you to recreate a card and use a different technique and see what you come up with!!!

Happy Stamping.

KWCI#2 Challenge

This is a much older challenge set by Kristine earlier in the year. I thought the colour combo looked appealing, but at the time the 2 InColors used were not yet available in Australia. Then when they were I saw that Groovly guava colour and it just looked bad to me. Today I was looking thru all of her previous CI’s and I decided to give it a go. http://kwernerdesign.com/blog/2008/03/color-inspiration-2.html

Still not fussed on the whole Groovy Guava thingy but I do like how it works with these colours. This card is also an adaption of a nother card i made found here http://misstreez.wordpress.com/2008/05/25/where-are-the-serviettes/

  • Stamp Set – Wild Roses, Baroque Motifs, Party Punch
  • Card Stock – Wild Wasabi, Groovy Guava, So Saffon, Blush Blossom
  • Ink – Wild Wasabi, Groovy Guava, So Saffon
  • Accessories – Designer label punch, Stamp-a-ma-jig, sponges, double stitch ribbon (Wild Wasabi)

I’m happy with the way this card has turned out. I tried doing something new with the punched out and layered sentiment. It really makes the card I think.

Thanks for dropping by.

Alisa’s Colour Challenge 4

This morning  I saw that Alsia had posted a new colour challenge so I gave it a go. It was a challenge in the sense that I’ve been on a roll making several cards for a different challenge using pinks and greens, and this one required blues and greens. Alisa’s challenge can be found http://www.alisatilsner.com/blog/?p=398

  • Stamp set – True Friend, Boho Friend, Paisley BG
  • Card Stock – Not Quite Navy, Soft Sky, Certainly Celery, Whisper White
  • Ink- Not Quite Navy, Soft Sky
  • Accessories – Sponges, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Circle punch

KWCI#17 Submission

This is the card I’m submitting for http://kwernerdesign.com/blog/2008/07/color-inspiration-17.html#comments Details can be found in previous post.

As mentioned in the previous post, this one was my favourite.

Thanks for looking in.

No housework done today

….because I started on my card making table first, and once I’d cleared a space I got itchy fingers to start just one more card. Huh!!! Try three cards. Oh I’m so bad. But the upshot is that I like these ones much better than the first, so thats got to be a good thing. Hehehehe.

I used the Colour Inspiration from the previous post. So all cards are made with the folowing colours – Rose Red, Regal Rose, Sage Shadow and Whisper White.

  • Stamp Set – Wild Roses, Baroque Motifs, Paisley BG, One of a Kind
  • Accessories – Designer Label and Photo Corner punches, Stamp-a-ma-jig

  • Stamp Set - True Friend, Always, One of a Kind, In the Spotlight
  • Accessories – Ribbon (Regal Rose wide and Whisper White narrow), Scallop and circle punches, Stamp-a-ma-jig

  • Stamp Set – One of a Kind, In the Spotlight, Boho Friend
  • Accessories – Boho Blossoms punch

My personal favourite is the last one. Such a great colour combo and I had time to sit and make a few.  Unfortunately I’ve now run out of Sage Shadow card stock as it has been depleted to a handful of scraps.

What’s your personal pick? I’d love to hear your opinion. Thanks for dropping by!!

Colour Inspiration #17

I’ve made a few cards using this colour combo and I’ve uploaded a couple for you to see today.

Here is the first one, which I made last night. I made another similar, with the Sage Shadow as the card base but I prefer this one. I’ve used one of the new sets from the Spring Mini Catalogue. I like how you can stamp the small flower shapes and then punch them with the new punch. I went to a meeting last night and saw some lovely cards using this set and punch. I used….

  • Stamp Set – One of a Kind
  • Card Stock – Regal Rose, Whisper White, Sage Shadow
  • Ink – Regal Rose, Rose Red, Sage Shadow
  • Accessories – Boho Blossom punch

The next card I made today (shhh about the housework!!!).

I was really liking how this one was coming together and then I think I went off the rails somewhere towards the end. I look at it and can’t quite pinpoint what is off about it. I’ll have to stop trying I guess and go have a cuppa. Oh and I’ve still got that nasty housework to do. Boo hoo. I’ve used…

  • Stamp Set – Always, Baroque Motifs
  • Card Stock – Regal Rose, Rose Red, Whisper White, Sage Shadow
  • Ink – Regal Rose, Rose Red, Sage Shadow
  • Accessories – Stamp-a-ma-jig.

PS Kristie – Psst, I won’t mention the glaring error in alignment on the cards here. LOL

Thanks for taking a look everyone.

Late for another callenge

Kristine Werner has yet again found another great colour inspiration for us to try which can be found here – http://kwernerdesign.com/blog/2008/07/color-inspiration-16.html#comments I had made the card in a timely manner, and had even taken a photo before the submission deadline. But then I got shy about posting, on account of my bow being off center in its space. Is it wrong of me to hold back on what I perceive to be a fundamental flaw in my work?

I bought some new stamp sets from the spring mini catalogue and have been giving them an inky tryout so I have card samples ready for the August 1 release. I shall have another card to post in the next day or two, so keep an eye out. The sentiment was stamped onto a strip of paper the same width as the Designer Label punch. I then slotted one end in thru the bottom and punched off one end. Then did the same to the other end to match.

I used

  • Stamp set – True Friend, One of a Kind
  • Card Stock – Soft Sky, Very Vanilla.
  • Paper – DSP Pumpkin Pie, Certainly Celery
  • Ink – Pumpkin Pie, Certainly Celery
  • Accessories – Certainly Celery wide ribbon, Designer Label punch.

Thanks for dropping by.

For a special peer

I wanted to make a card for a special friend and I was looking thru my Stampin’ Up! (SU) stuff and couldn’t find the inspiration I needed. It was time to go into the garage and pull out some of my other rubber. I also wanted to get back to my ‘old’ collage style of stamping. Boy do I feel good now. As it turns out 90% of the card uses SU products.

The shading in the bottom left corner isn’t done with sponging. Instead I inked up the distress background from the Oh, So Lovely set, and starting from the corner tapping the stamp into the center. Everytime you ‘tap’ the impression gets lighter and lighter. This gives a shaded effect but with texture. And I love texture!!!!!!!

The female image is from Tuscan Rose. I don’t know the name of it but it’s an adaption from an old photograph. Some of you may recognize it. Next time I see the photograph I check to see if it has a title. It’s one of my all time favourite stamps. Must have inked it up over a hundred times!!!

So, on with the supply list.

  • Stamp Sets – Baroque Motifs, Always, Oh So Lovely, Friendship Blooms and female image by Tuscan Rose.
  • Card Stock – Black (non SU), Basic Gray, Whisper White.
  • Ink – Basic Blask, Versamark
  • Accessories – Silver EP and Brads

Thanks for dropping by.

Double Challenge

I’ve combined two challenges for the making of this card. The first is a sketch challenge put up by Madonna, my SU team leader at http://www.madonnadunn.com/?p=129 . The other was a colour challenge set but Alisa at http://www.alisatilsner.com/blog/?p=374 .

I tought I’d try the sketch layout in a portrait orientation for something different.

  • Stamp Sets – Baroque Motifs, Boho Backgrounds, Paisley BG, Warm Words.
  • Card Stock – Purely Pomegranate, Pretty in Pink, Barely Banana
  • Ink – Purely Pomegranate, Pretty in Pink
  • Accessories – Purely Pomegranate Ribbon, Punches; Square, circle, photo corners

Thanks for dropping by.

Hello Rosey Pumpkin

I was going to upload a photo of a card that I made for a challenge but the photos didn’t show the colours as well as I’d like so I’ve opted for this one instead.

I’m getting ready for a biggish kind of workshop this Friday at a retirement villiage and I was trying out some new ideas for the make and take. I thought that this would be very do-able. I seen some great cards done with the Petal Prints stamp set so I just had to have it. Do you find sometimes that when you try to replicate the card/stamping that somehow it just looks not-so-good as when someone else does it? That’s what I found with Petal Prints. I put it away as a bad purchase. Well I’m glad I didn’t give it away ‘cos I’ve pulled it out again and made something I actually like – at long last.

And how is it that I find it very hard to resist using In The Spotlight set on a lot of my cards. Those little word dots are just the best. Here is what I used….

  • Stamp Set – Petal Prints, In the Spotlight
  • Card Stock – Rose Red, Regal Rose, Pumpkin Pie (inc DSP), Whisper White
  • Ink – Rose Red, Regal Rose, Pumpkin Pie
  • Accessories – Circle Punch.

I’ll take another photo of the challenge card tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll be home sometime during the daylight hours for an outdoor shot.

Thanks for droppin in.
