Field Labourer
Such an unglamous title to match the unglamours job I do. One of my co-workers describes her job as Plant Distributor for a large farming company. We then spent the day devising clever phrases describing what we do. So, we liase with the tractor operator to maximise transplanting success. In other words – Hey STOP!!! My planter is not working properly. We are part of the ongoing development of new varieties of brocolli. In other words – we plant out the seedling trails that turn up periodically at the field. You kinda get the picture.
This is me last week. I’ve just had Smoko, it’s about 9am, the day is just starting to warm up after a very chilly start and it’s going to be a beautiful day!!!!
New Colour Challenges.
Alisa Tilsner has update her Blog and has set a colour challenge at http://www.alisatilsner.com/blog/?p=349 , and I thought I’d give it a go. I’m not working today and I’m hoping to get a couple of card done today, to make up for all the cards I’ve been to tired and busy to make these past few weeks. There are so many challenges I want to do , not to mention doing some CASEs, preparing for a couple of upcoming workshops, and making up cards with some of my image swaps. I also wanted to do the gardening and get some over due housework done. Are there enough hours in my precious day off??!!
- Stamp sets – A little bit of Happines, In the Spotlight, Boho Backgrounds
- Card Stock – Old Olive, Certainly Celery DSP, Pumpkin Pie, Apricot Appeal, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White.
- Ink – Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Apricot Appeal, Chocolate Chip.
- Accessories – Aqua Brush, Circle Punches
I made this card up using saved scraps – I didn’t cut into any new card stock!!! It almost makes it like a bonus card, hey? I might challenge myself to make all my cards this weekend just using all my cut up CS.
Missed the deadline….
…For Kristine Werner’s Colour Challenge #13. I had just taken some photos of my card, and was heading to the computer to edit them when a visitor showed up and the rest of my evening was taken up socialising. Anyway here is the card!!

- Card Stock – Whisper White, Purely Pomegranate, Wild Wasabi, River Rock and Regal Rose
- Inks – Purely Pomegranate, Wild Wasabi, River Rock and Regal Rose

Life has been busy….
… and I’ve barely made any cards lately except to prepare for a workshop.
I’ve been working my butt off and it looks like I’ll be working at this pace for the next couple of months. I’m currently working for a large farming company and I’ve been challenged to try my hand at a variety of jobs.
The first was cutting lettuce out of the field and it was very boggy and wet days when I did that. I promptly bought myself a pair of gum boots that fit me, as the pair that was loaned to me were several sizes to big. Very hard to walk in when there is mud suck all over them, let me tell you!!
Next was lettuce planting, which in itself is nothing new. I’d been brocolli planting previously with a fun and lively crew, but the new team is smaller. Now it’s just me, the tractor driver and two ladies from Laos, who converse constanly in their own language. After three weeks I’m now use to it.
Then one day the boss says, ‘Theresa, your cutting brocolli tomorrow’. “What? Am I going to get hurt? I’m just a poor pathetic girl. I might be a bit too soft for this kind of work!!!”. “Nah, you’ll be right!!!”
Today it was something called Chipping. It involves taking a hoe out to the field and ‘chipping’ away at the weeds. Aaarrggghh!!!!
Each day I keep telling myself that I’m still alive, that it didn’t kill me and that I’m going to get paid at the end of the week.
The strange thing is that when I first started farming work, last year for a few months, I hated it. I felt it was a real come down into the world of pysical labouring. I dreaded the thought of having to do it again this year. But these past few weeks, I’m now seeing it as a work of choise. I’ve turned down a few jobs in Aged Care (my previous line of work) since doing field work, and to be honest I don’t think I’m every going to get to the place in my head where I’ll be ok to go back to it.
The days are very long, and the mornings quite chilly, but I love seeing the sun rise and set over my head. And I’m not stuck in traffic gridlock!!!
I’ve got nothing on this weekend, so I really hope to get a couple of cards made. I really miss making my cards the most.
Thanks for dropping by for a read.
Trying a Kwerner Challenge
I though I’d try doing a Colour Challenge from KwernerDesigns. The colours were to be Whisper White, So Saffron, Old Olive, Rose Red and Going Gray. Unfortunately I didn’t have the Going Gray so I made up a card using Basic Gray instead. It’s the first time I’ve used Basic gray and I think it’s a great neutral colour. I’ll be ordering the Going gray with my next order as I’m sure it will also become a versatile favourite.
- Stamp Sets – In the Spotlight, Bodacious Bouquet
- Card Stock – Basic Gray, Rose Red DSP
- Ink – So Saffron, Old Olive
- Accessories – Hole punch, Circle Punch, Old Olive wide Grosgrain, White Grosgrain.
..
Pink Magnolia
I’ve had this stamp for a couple of weeks and I’ve finally got around to using it. For a first attempt I’m quite happy with it.
- Stamp set – From the Garden
- Card Stock – Rose Red, Close to Cocoa, Watercolour paper
- Ink – Pretty in Pink, Purely Pomegranate, Elegant Eggplant, Rose Red, Always Artichoke, Mellow Moss, Old Olive, Close to Cocoa, So Saffron and River Rock
- Accessories – Photo Corner Punch, Aqua Painter.
Thanks for looking.
